New Logo

You may notice the the Walk has a new logo! A local graphic designer, Brandt Brinkerhoff donated his time and creativity to create the logo for us. Here is his explanation of the logo:

The mark is made up of three concentric hearts which represent the three groups of adoption: the birth parents, the adopting parents, and the child. The heart shapes suggest that it requires love and sacrifice from all parties to make an adoption successful. The dark band across the center holding the word "adoption" is reminiscent of a pledge bracelet (ex. "Livestrong") indicating a pledge to support the vital and important service of adoption.

T-Shirts

**UPDATED 9/29 with cost of shirts - see below**

This year we will have Walk for Adoption T-Shirts available for purchase. In the online registration we asked if you wanted t-shirts. Based on the responses we get (we will tally the sign-ups on September 30th and order based on that number), we will order shirts...BUT just because you indicated that you WANT a shirt does not automatically mean you'll GET one...we're ordering them, bringing them to the walk and then it will be a first come, first serve basis. So if you said you want one...get there early to make sure you get yours! :)

The shirts must be paid for in CASH.

These are just examples.

You will not be able to reserve a color...it will all be first come, first serve.

The cost of the t-shirts is Youth: $6, Adult: $7. Please bring CASH to the Walk if you wish to purchase a shirt.

The nice thing about the shirts is that they are not year specific...so you'll be able to wear yours every year!

If you want a shirt - be sure to tell us so when you register - and then get to the forest preserve early. Can't wait to see all of us in our Walk for Adoption shirts!!

Birthmother Baskets

This year at the walk we will be collecting donations for Birth Mother Baskets.

Birth Mother Baskets {bmb} is a non-profit organization that delivers gift baskets to birth mothers who have recently placed their babies for adoption.These gift baskets hold so much more than just the tangible items inside of them. They are filled with LOVE, warmth and support. bmb provides a loving voice saying, "you are not alone, you are loved, you are brave and yes someone has felt this unbearable pain before." bmb gives the mothers something to take home with them, from the hospital.We know that these baskets provide a moment of stillness for these birth mothers, whose emotions will become so deep in their first few days of placement. Our hope is that they will for just a moment, feel that ache disappear by placing a bmb in their arms. Please, help us support these brave women who truly give the greatest gift of all... selfless LOVE.

	Show your support for adoption! Why? November is National Adoption month and to celebrate and to kick-off the month, the Illinois Chapter of Families Supporting Adoption is hosting a Walk for Adoption Saturday October 15, 2011 This year's theme is: "Grapeful" for Adoption This year's color is PURPLE (and wear lots of it!)

Who Can Attend?

Anyone and everyone touched in a positive way by adoption is invited to participate. Birth families, adoptees, foster families, adoptive familes, couples hoping to adopt, and even just friends are all welcome!

We are heavy into the planning stages of the 2011 Walk for Adoption Chicago!

We are looking for anyone interested in volunteering with:

mailing postcards,

stuffing swag bags,

contacting media,

creating a balloon arch,

facepainting,

organizing a spirit contest

etc.

Any help, no matter how big or small, would be appreciated!!

Contest - Show your Adoption Spirit!!

On the day of the walk there will be a contest...decorate yourselves, your family, your pets, strollers, bikes, etc to show off your adoption spirit! Get creative - use the colors of adoption (see blog post above) - think big!
